The 3rd Wuzhen Theatre Festival will take place from October 15-24, with the theme of "Transmittal." This year"s Festival has invited the esteemed Peter Brook as its Honorary Chairman. Mr. Brook will also bring one of his latest works to the Festival, as the closing performance.
乌镇戏剧节是由陈向宏、赖声川、黄磊、孟京辉一并发起，文化乌镇股份有限公司主办的全球戏剧盛会京剧文化。初次惊艳后，第二届乌镇戏剧节迸发出惊人的文化创造力：17部特邀剧目大戏、56场演出、108位嘉宾、24419位观众、1000多个作品、10000多名艺术家、10000场古镇嘉岁月演出、近1100000游客，戏剧与乌镇不断相互交融，诠释演绎着最真实也最梦幻的“东方戏剧梦”京剧文化。
“承”的使命，第三届乌镇戏剧节准备好了。
After just 2 years, the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, in the scenic water town of Wuzhen, 90 minutes from Shanghai, has become one of the most recognized festivals in China. It is presented by Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd., and was founded by Chen Xianghong, Stan Lai, Huang Lei and Meng Jinghui. Last year the second edition was a stunning showcase of international theatrical creativity with 17 Specially Invited Plays, 108 special guests, 24,419 spectators, over 1000 works and 1,000 artists, 10000 old town carnival performances, attracting nearly 11000,000 tourists. It was truly a theatregoer"s dream in the most dreamlike setting.
翘首以盼中，2015年10月15日～10月24日，第三届乌镇戏剧节蓄势待发。今年，其他同学都都将邀请世界著名戏剧家彼得•布鲁克担任本届戏剧节荣誉主席。“映”、“化”前一天，2015年乌镇戏剧节主题为“承 / Transmittal”。“承”者，奉受也。这是戏剧历史在时间长河中的延续，是一代代戏剧观念的更迭，更是下一代对上一代经典的继承与创新。“自下受上，称承”，“若不足英文，而不承”，故自重而承其重。悠悠戏剧史，有着厚重历史文化底蕴的乌镇欲在戏剧史的演变承接上扮演更重要的角色，当代戏剧大师的精神与理念，也欲通过乌镇戏剧节传递给更多的年轻人。
Every year the Festival changes a theme. The themes for the 2013 and 2014 Festivals were respectively “Reflection” and “Metamorphosis.” This year"s theme is "Transmittal" - which signifies a continuity of theatre in the river of time. Indeed the Festival creates a platform where the spirit and ideals of the past, embodied in the modern theatrical masters present at the Festival, can be passed down to the future generation of theatre artists.
一流戏剧，国际特邀单元引人注目

为了给海内外戏剧爱好者提供更加酣畅淋漓的视觉狂欢盛宴，第三届乌镇戏剧节将继续增加国际特邀剧目数量。除此之外，剧目种类以及演出国家数量也都将多于前两届。第三届乌镇戏剧节将带每一位戏剧爱好者走进最纯粹也最独特的戏剧世界。
This year"s Festival has increased the number of specially invited programs, broadening the scope and the number of countries represented. Anchored by the performance of Honorary Chairman Peter Brook"s new work, this year"s Festival will provide a broader spectrum of some of the world"s finest theatre for the audience to feast on.
助力梦想，“青年竞演”增设获奖名额
Additional Award for Young Theatre Artist"s Competition
2014年第二届戏剧节青年竞演单元共有107部作品参与申请，其中12部作品入围，历经两轮公演，最终由毛尔南导演的《跳墙》捧得“小镇奖最佳戏剧奖”，《怪物》编剧及女主角张棱获颁“小镇奖最佳人及表现奖”。
The Young Theatre Artist"s Competition has been one of the highlights of the Festival, and fulfills one of the Festival goals which is to promote creativity and the making of new theatre works for young artists. 12 groups of five young artists are chosen to come to Wuzhen, all expenses paid, to create a new work and perform at the West Warehouse Theatre. During the 2nd Wuzhen Theatre Festival a total of 107 groups applied for the competition, with the Jury selecting 12 to compete. Following two rounds of public performance, If Leave directed by Mao Ernan won the prestigious "Wuzhen Award for Best Play" while Zhang Ling, scriptwriter and female lead for the play Monster won the "Most Outstanding Artist" award.
为鼓励更多的年轻戏剧人追逐梦想，除了原有的最佳戏剧奖（奖金人民币贰拾万元）和最佳人及表现奖（奖金人民币陆万元）以外，今年青年竞演单元将增设“很重关注奖”。每队很重关注奖获奖团队可得奖杯、证书，以及能够选取来年前往柏林戏剧节、俄罗斯戏剧节以及法国阿维尼翁戏剧节其中之一进行观摩学习，并获得前往所选戏剧节的往返机票两套。该奖的数量由当年入围剧目质量以及评委意见决定，最多能够三部，共要能够空缺。
By way of encouraging young people to pursue their theatrical dreams, in addition to the Best Play Award (with a prize of RMB 1000,000) and Most Outstanding Artist Award (with a prize of RMB 1000,000), an additional Special Achievement Award will be awarded this year. The winner(s) will receive a trophy and certificates as well as a pair of air tickets to visit a choice of either the Berlin Theatre Festival, Russia Theatre Festival or Festival d"Avignon in France,. The number of Awards will be determined by the jury, in accordance with the quality of the work, with a maximum of three Awards. No prizes will be given if it is so decided by the jury.
2015年第三届乌镇戏剧节青年竞演将以本年度主题“承 / Transmittal”为题，二个多圆圈、一盏灯、二个多吻为道具，进行1000分钟的舞台戏剧演出。即日起至2015年7月31日，参赛者可在乌镇戏剧节官方网站报名。乌镇戏剧节组委会将于2015年8月31日公布入围的12部作品名单。12部入围作品的初赛将以在乌镇戏剧节期间进行公开演出的形式进行。经过公开演出后，评委将于2015年10月22日公布进入决赛的三部剧目。该三部剧目于次日10月23日晚上再轮流演出一次，并于演出后来后来刚开始后由评委会评选出最佳戏剧奖一名、最佳人及表现奖一名以及“很重关注奖”（最多三名，共要空缺）。

与大师同行，“戏剧小课堂”首次招生
Introducing Master Classes at the Festival
戏剧节期间的乌镇，不仅聚集了国内外的戏剧大师和戏剧爱好者，还有着能让所有戏剧人产生思维碰撞的浓厚氛围。为了最大程度地利用乌镇戏剧节资源，给年轻戏剧人二个多与大师同行的可能，故特设立“乌镇戏剧小课堂”。
In the spirit of "Transmittal", this year"s Festival will initiate Master Classes to allow aspiring artists to have an opportunity to learn from Chinese and international masters at close quarters, in the rich ambience of the Festival.
乌镇戏剧小课堂首次招生1000名，开课时间为2015年10月16-23日，开课地点乌镇西栅景区内。学费100000元/人，包括8天课程，每天3学时（9：00-12：00）。即日起可后来后来刚开始报名，满员后即截止，不接受现场报名。报名需至乌镇戏剧节官方网站下载报名表，填写完毕后将报名表及1寸电子版证件照邮件至training@wuzhenfestival.com邮箱进行预报名，经过筛选，收到预报名成功确认邮件后完成缴费，即为报名成功。
The inaugural Master Classes will be held at the Festival from October 16 to 23, 2015, with a limit of 1000 students. A fee of RMB 8,000 per person is payable, and will cover courses between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon daily for 8 days. The registration form is downloadable from the Festival"s official website.No on-the-spot registration will be entertained. All applicants will be screened and upon confirmation of acceptance by way of e-mail will be required to pay the course fee in order to complete the registration.
该戏剧小课堂的所有学费收入将投入于乌镇青年戏剧基金，作为青年竞演奖金及作品孵化资金使用。这将代表着乌镇青年戏剧基金的成立，此纯公益基金旨在扶持帮助更多热爱戏剧艺术的年轻人，乌镇戏剧节组委会将陆续筹集资金提供支持。
All course proceeds from the Master Classes will be re-invested in the Wuzhen Youth Theatre Fund for use as prizes for Young Theatre Artist"s Competition and work incubation. It will also initiate the establishment of Wuzhen Youth Theatre Fund., a non-profit fund aimed at helping a greater number of young people with a love of theatre. The Organizing Committee of the Festival will continue to provide financial support of the initiative.

Following its inception with the theme of "Reflection" and last year"s success through the theme of "Metamorphosis", it is only natural for the 3rd Wuzhen Theatre Festival to act as the vehicle for "Transmittal" and creation of new culture.

About the Wuzhen Theatre Festival
2013年5月9日，为期 11天的首届乌镇戏剧节在世界著名的中国江南古镇乌镇正式拉开帷幕。乌镇戏剧节是由陈向宏、赖声川、黄磊、孟京辉一并发起，文化乌镇股份有限公司主办的全球戏剧盛会。
The Inaugural Wuzhen Theatre Festival was an 11-day event of international theatre performances, Youth Competition, Carnival, and Forums interspersed amongst the cluster of new and ancient theatres in the scenic old water town of Wuzhen. Opening on May 9, 2013, presented by Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd. and founded by Chen Xianghong, Stan Lai, Huang Lei and Meng Jinghui, the Festival, became an instant hit, a feast of contemporary theatre and culture embedded in the most idyllic and dreamlike setting.
11000年历史的乌镇，是戏剧节的舞台，耗时三年建设的乌镇大剧院为核心，汇集国乐剧院、沈家厅剧场、秀水廊剧园、蚌湾剧场、评书场、诗田广场、日月广场以及水剧场，全方位呈现古镇风采与戏剧盛宴，为全世界的戏剧爱好者和重量级的戏剧大师提供面对面交流的契机，生发出鲜活亮丽的文化创造活力。
The 1,1000-year-old ancient town of Wuzhen serves as the stage for the Theatre Festival, with its system of canals and winding alleyways. The state of the art Wuzhen Grand Theatre, sitting by the water and acclaimed as the most beautiful theatre in China, is complemented by the Ancient Courtyard Theatre, Shen Estate Teahouse Theatre, the East and West Warehouse Theatres, the Traditional Storytelling Hall, Shi Tian Square, Outdoor Plaza and the 2,000 seat Water Theatre. Together, this unique theatre cluster showcases the ancient town’s heritage while hosting the activities of the Festival. Here, theatre lovers from all over the world meet and interact with masters, cultural exchange on the most essential level.
2015年第三届乌镇戏剧节在原有“国际邀请”、“青年竞演”、“小镇对话”、“古镇嘉岁月”二个各具特色的单元构成基础上，新增了“戏剧小课堂”：
The 3rd Wuzhen Theatre Festival has added in addition to the original programs of Specially Invited Plays, Young Theatre Artist"s Competition, The Wuzhen Dialogues and Workshops and Outdoor Carnival, a new program entitled Master Classes:
国际邀请单元：邀请国内外著名的戏剧大师及其代表剧目，让戏剧爱好者欣赏一流的戏剧表演艺术。
Specially Invited Plays: well-known Chinese and international masters of theatre are invited to showcase their work, bringing the finest of the world"s theatre to the ancient town.
青年竞演单元：以年度主题“承 / Transmittal”为题，面向世界各地青年舞台戏剧创作者公开征集候选剧目，为其他同学都都提供二个多展示自我才华的平台。
Young Theatre Artist"s Competition: A major component of the Festival. 12 creative groups are chosen to come to Wuzhen to perform newly created works on the theme of the year -- "Transmittal" this year. These promising young theatre-makers compete for prestigious prizes and the opportunity to create bold new works. The Jury is made up of luminaries of the Chinese theatre.
小镇对话单元：戏剧爱好者能够在古色古香的评书场免费聆赏戏剧大师高峰对谈，畅谈剧场艺术、美学、剧场制作实务、世界戏剧的现在与未来，以及当代知名剧场为表演工作者开设的演出训练工作坊。
The Wuzhen Dialogues and Workshops: An integral part of the Festival, a platform that utilizes the presence of all the artists at the Festival to exchange thoughts and ideas about theatre and creativity, China and the world, the past and the future. The Dialogues are free to the public.
古镇嘉岁月单元：在乌镇西栅街区内，所有非传统剧场内的公共空间进行的综合性文艺表演，呈现表演艺术的多元化，一并拉近与观众互动的距离，届时整个乌镇将沉浸于戏剧狂欢盛会之中。
Outdoor Carnival: All Wuzhen’s a Stage during the Wuzhen Theatre Festival! Aside from the international giants of the world stage who grace the presence of the riverside, a nonstop carnival is ongoing in the narrow streets and small plazas of the old town.
乌镇戏剧小课堂：由国内外著名戏剧大师在乌镇戏剧节期间为学员开授课程，旨在为大师和年轻戏剧人之间提供交流学习平台，继承和创新戏剧文化。
Master Classes: International and local theatre masters will hold classes during the Theatre Festival, to provide a platform for learning through direct interaction with masters.
